Licensed Social Worker
“A man who moved a mountain begins by carrying away small stones” -Confucius
Hi! My name is Kelly Carter and I am a licensed social worker in Maryland. I received my Master’s of Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore with a specialization in mental and behavioral health.
I have experience working primarily with adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm/suicidal ideation, mood disorders, history of trauma, and dysfunctional family relationships. I am trained and/or experienced in attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
I utilize a personalized combination of CBT, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic techniques to help clients learn the skills needed to take back control of their minds and bodies.
My person-centered clinical approach focuses on creating a warm, authentic therapeutic space that fosters a supportive environment and helps clients feel comfortable bringing every version of themselves to therapy. I like to meet clients where they’re at while gently challenging them to do the work and make progress towards their personal goals. Therapy isn’t meant to be comfortable because change isn’t comfortable; I’m here to help you find peace and progress in that discomfort.
When I’m not with clients, I love spending time outside with my partner and our four-legged fur child. I also love baking, cooking, gardening, and choosing a hobby to hyper-focus on for two weeks before moving onto the next one.
