Couples Counseling

For two people who know their love is worth fighting for, and know it cannot keep going like this.

In-person in Rockville and Silver Spring, or by telehealth across Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Louisiana, and Washington State.

Two people across a table with separate cups, a careful distance between them.
Who this is for

Your love is worth fighting for.

Couples therapy at Enrichment Wellness is for two people who know their love is worth fighting for, and who also know it cannot keep going like this.

The couple having the same fight on a loop. It starts about the dishwasher. It ends somewhere neither of you can name. Forty-seven minutes of silence after a kitchen argument you have had eleven months of times. The thing in the room is exhaustion.
The couple who has not stopped loving each other. You can still laugh at something the four-year-old said. You can still remember being on the same side. Most couples don’t come because they have stopped loving each other. They come because the muscle memory of being teammates has gotten weaker than the muscle memory of being opponents.
The couple at the edge of a decision. One of you has been thinking about leaving and has not said it. One of you has been bracing for it and has not asked. You both need a room that can hold both possibilities long enough to figure out which one is true.
The couple bringing an older fight into this marriage. The pattern that wears the clothes of the current argument and belongs to someone else’s house. The reactivity that has roots in childhood. The dynamic that is actually a much older fight in costume.
The work

What the work looks like

Couples therapy here is weekly, in-person at our Rockville or Silver Spring offices.

The first few sessions, we map what actually happens between you. The trigger. The escalation. The shutdown. The forty-seven minutes of silence. Once you can both see the cycle from the outside, you become two people looking at a pattern together. Teammates instead of opponents. That shift is the work.

Our couples-trained clinicians draw from a few different frameworks, matched to what your relationship needs.

Gottman Method for couples who want concrete tools, repair language, and a framework for the patterns that erode marriages over time.

Imago for couples ready to do deeper work on what each of you brought into the relationship from the family you grew up in.

Emotionally Focused approaches for couples caught in the same emotional cul-de-sac.

IFS-informed couples work for when the fight in the kitchen is actually a much older fight wearing new clothes.

Two pairs of hands clasped together on a warm table, coming back to each other.
What changes

You come back to each other faster.

Conversations about the calendar, the in-laws, the money stop turning into proxy wars about whether either of you is loved. The forty-seven minutes of silence get shorter. Then they happen less often. Then one of you cracks a joke and the other one laughs. You come back to each other after a rupture in hours, not days. Sunday night at 9:47 stops being the time you brace for impact.

We work toward the marriage two adults can actually build, on purpose, with the people you have both become.
