Trauma-Focused Care

Trauma lives in the body, underneath the story you’ve already told. We work both the words and what words can’t reach, at the pace your nervous system can hold.

In-person in Rockville and Silver Spring, or by telehealth across Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Louisiana, and Washington State.

What brought you here

Two people. Two different origins. Same shape of work.

Daniel. Daniel has not slept through the night in three years. He can tell you the story. He has told it before. By daylight he is a competent forty-three-year-old who runs a department and pays his bills and takes his kids to soccer. At 2 a.m. his shoulders are up before his eyes are open. The narrative reached the surface long ago. His body has been doing the work underneath.
Naomi. Naomi came home from her last deployment in 2019. The danger is over. Her nervous system has been keeping watch anyway. A car door slams in the parking lot and she loses the next twenty minutes. Her shoulders set when a stranger walks too close in the grocery aisle. By every external measure she is doing well. By her own measure, she has not felt safe in her body since she was twenty-four.

People often arrive having already told the story, sometimes for years. The work that is still undone lives somewhere words do not reach.

The shape of the work

A shape most people do not see until they are in it

Talk therapy reaches the part of you that has language. Body-based work reaches the part of you that has been holding what language has not touched. Both matter. We work both layers, calibrated to the pace your nervous system can hold.

Stabilization. Before anything else, the nervous system needs to know it can come down. We build capacity first. Regulation skills. The internal floor every other piece of the work stands on. This part is not skippable. It is also not endless. We work toward what comes next.

Processing. Once there is ground under you, we work with what the body has been carrying. IFS to meet the protective parts that have been running the show. Eye movement techniques and Brain Spotting for what the story has not been able to reach. Somatic attention to breath and posture and what the body has been signaling. Pacing transparent throughout. You will always know what we are doing and why.

Reconnection. What one client called the goal. Current self, past significant events, future outlook all clear, calm, and connected. Convergence. The life on the other side of the work.

How Daniel and Naomi are doing now

The life on the other side of the work

Daniel. Slept through the night last Tuesday. It was not a coincidence. It has not been since.

Naomi. Heard a car door slam in the parking lot and stayed in her body. Did not lose the next twenty minutes to it.

Current self, past significant events, future outlook. Clear, calm, and connected.
