What brought you here

The practice that works when life is steady.

People come to mindfulness-based therapy here in a few familiar ways. They have tried to build a practice on their own, and it has helped, but it has not held the harder weeks.

Jordan. Jordan has done the apps. The books. The retreat. The three-month streak of morning sitting that ended in March. The practice has worked when life was steady. It has not held the harder weeks. What Jordan came for was a way to use mindfulness when the mind is going faster than the breath and a meditation timer is not enough.
Priya. Priya is recovering from her third depressive episode. Each one has come back after she was sure she was out of the woods. She has read about MBCT. She wants relapse prevention with clinical scaffolding behind it. She is also, quietly, tired of being surprised by it.
What MBCT is

What the work looks like

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy was developed by clinical researchers for one specific problem first. People kept relapsing into depression after their symptoms had cleared. The mind kept finding its way back into the old grooves.

MBCT combined two things that worked. The cognitive therapy framework that helps you see the thinking pattern in real time. Mindfulness practices that build the underlying capacity to notice the pattern before it owns you. The combination is evidence-based for depression relapse prevention. Over the last fifteen years it has expanded to chronic anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, chronic stress, and sleep difficulty.

The clinical structure draws on the MBCT eight-week framework when it fits, adapted to the rhythm of weekly therapy and your specific situation. The practices you learn are portable. They are for the meeting, the bedside, the inbox, the two a.m. wake-up. The point is what becomes available to you the rest of the week.

Mindfulness in therapy here is the work of noticing your mind. That noticing changes everything downstream. You build a pause between the trigger and the reaction. You develop the witness, the part of you that can watch the anxiety move through without becoming it. You ground in the body when the mind is spiraling. You learn to read the early signs of the slide before it becomes the full episode.

Where the work calls for it, we integrate IFS for the parts in conflict, DBT skills for emotional intensity, ACT for values clarity, and hypnotherapy for layers below conscious cognitive access.

It is practical, embodied, skill-oriented.

What changes

How Jordan and Priya are doing now.

Jordan sat through the bad week in February. Did not sit perfectly. Sat anyway. Priya caught the early signs in October that she would have missed last year. She asked for an extra session that month. The episode did not arrive.

The point is what becomes available to you the rest of the week.
